8/20/2012 0 Comments Styling Maxi DressesHello Fashionistas! This past week I uploaded a video showing you ladies how I styled 4 of my maxi dresses. I think maxis are the best thing to wear in the summer because they keep you cool during the day and warm at night if it gets chilly where you live. I tried to make each look have a different vibe which I hope comes across. I'll share with you what I was thinking with each look! This is a very photo heavy post, so you have been warned ;) All the Before & Afters of the Looks! :) {Outfit 1} Dress: Old Navy Sweater: Was my Nana's Accessories: Bass Earrings, Claire's ring, Nana's watch Shoes: Stitches tennis shoe -- For this look I was going for a comfy look that could transition for cooler days (or even..f...fal...fall days THERE I SAID IT :'( ). I wanted the jewellery to be simple because its a casual look and also because there are 3/4 sleeves, so too much jewellery and you will lose your arms and add a heaviness to the outfit. I'm all for arm candy/parties but this is not a look for it. The tennis shoe adds to the cooler feel of the look keeping your toes warm or if you haven't painted your toes in a little while ahaha. -- {Outfit 2} Dress: Old Navy Blouse: Old Navy Accessories: Gifted necklace, Old Random Bracelet Shoes: Aldo gladiator sandals -- To me this is the most girly/feminine of the looks and a very 'just pulled together' type of outfit. You don't look as though you've tried very hard for it and it has an effortless feel. You can wear the shirt open and down or tie it up as I've done. By tying it up you draw in your waist line so you aren't being swallowed up by a flowy dress. Throwing your hair up in a bun allows people to see your shoulders and jewellery you want to wear. I kept it simple with a beaded choker style necklace so it wouldn't make my bust area too busy. Again I kept the arm party to a minimal because of the 3/4 dolman sleeves. This was my second favourite look. -- {Outfit 3} Dress: Old Navy Top: Charlotte Russe Accessories: Handmade ring/earrings by me (at least 10 yrs ago!), Aldo bangles, Ardene shell bracelet, Old Navy belt Shoes: a Shop in Barcelona, Spain that I bought several years ago -- This look was another comfy day one, layering a crop top over this maxi. I added the belt to help define the natural waistline because I felt that it was a little too loose over the whole body which can make some look frumpy which is not cute on anyone. I chose to put the belt over the bottom hem of the crop top but it could have also been put just on top of the dress itself to break up the two pieces and give the body a little more shape. Little more arm party on this look because the dolman sleeves are much shorter. -- {Outfit 4} Dress: Old Navy Denim Vest: Forever21 Accessories: New York & Co. watch, vintage bangle, Aldo necklace, Forever21 Earrings, JOE Fresh Aviators Shoes: Costa Blanca X -- This look was my favourite & the vest just adds such an edge to the look and aviators always help to bring out inner badass ahaha. I thought since a maxi dress is very feminine (especially if its a lighter/more sheer material) it would be nice to roughen up the look and I think I was successful! -- I hope you guys enjoyed this Styling Post & the video below. Let me know which look you liked the most! This weeks fashion video is going to be "1 Maxi Skirt, 5 Looks" just to show the versatility of a 'plain' black maxi skirt. And there is a twist but you will have to wait for that! Definitely check out my Instagram because I usually post sneak peaks there and also on my Facebook Page! xo
