As a member of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network, I was given the opportunity to try out Demeter's Foolproof Duo and Trio blending kits.
The first is a Duo Fragrance Kit ($35), the scent that I chose was Jasmine/Lavender, the other two options were Clean Skin/Sunshine and Grass/Dirt. The duos come with two 1oz sprays and one empty bottle to customize your scent. It includes 4 droppers and a funnel so that you don't make a mess mixing. These one note scents are foolproof because no matter what ratio you mix them, they always work. It's your preference as to how much of either you will use for your custom scent. The empty bottle also has a custom label on it (which they recommend using permanent marker on) so you can give it a name, which I think is really awesome.
I had a hard time choosing which duo I wanted to try because "clean skin" and "sunshine" do not have a scent association for me so I thought it may be a bit dicey to choose that duo. In the end, I knew at the very least, what lavender would smell like, so I went with that duo. To be quite honest, I'm generally not a huge fan of lavender, I tend to find it overpowering in any dose, this one isn't too bad but I must admit I'm not really a fan of the Jasmine scent, at all. Needless to say, these two scents were not going to be the ones I mixed together...they just don't scream "Sydnee"!
Which brings me to the second kit I received which is their Foolproof Base Note Trio. The trio ($45) contains three 1oz bottles with 10 blending strips so you can play with your ideal combination. I was definitely more excited for this because it's their Vanilla Trio! I LOVE VANILLA, the scents in this collection are: Hawaiian Vanilla, Angel Food and Gingerbread. They smell amazing, and I think all three would mix together amazingly.
For myself, I played around mostly with the Vanilla trio to make my scent and what I came up with was a mix of Hawaiian Vanilla and Angel Food. I was originally going to mix in dash of Gingerbread but decided against it. I would say it's almost an even 1:1 ratio, but favouring Angel Food ever so slightly. I still don't think it's quite perfect and I'm going to play around with it a touch more so I've left lots of space in the bottle. I should note that I somehow managed to break two of the droppers while I was mixing my scent, so do be careful with how hard you squish them.
For my scent name I went with my blog name, albeit not very creative, it describes exactly what Demeter believes about scent, Live Life Your Way!
Here is how Demeter explains these 5 scents:
Jasmine: An exotic, sweet, warm floral bouquet. Lavender: Lullaby and goodnight......this scent says chill out Hawaiian Vanilla: Hawaiian heat, sweet rains and mild breezes transform Hawaiian Vanilla blossoms into the richest most aromatic vanilla beans in the world. Angel food: How many angels can dine on this food? Many apparently. It is one of our broadest appeal scents. Ah…..vanilla, sugar….how can you miss. Gingerbread: Rich, spicy ginger scent, extremely warm and sexy. If Hansel and Gretal had only had this, things might have been very, very different.
It's unreal how many scents Demeter has to choose from and several options for sizes and products. They have a permanent collection of scents in the Duo/Trio and will be rotating in several new collections throughout the year, so if you are interested I would definitely check it out. Also they sell a blending kit if you already have fragrances from them that you would like to mix together.
Everyone can find their personal scent and Demeter is making it that much easier. I would love to know if you've ever tried anything from Demeter before and what your go to perfume scent is (are you fruity? floral? musky?).
