Hello Lovelies! So I recently dug out my my crackle polishes and thought, 'hey why not write a review?' aha so here it is! I have the OPI Black Shatter and two of the Sally Hansen Crackles, one in Snow Blast (White) & the other in Antiqued Gold. I bought all of them last summer and they are all still widely available for purchase in stores. I put each of them overtop of Cozu-melted in the Sun by OPI because I was getting ready to change my polish. In case you do not know much or anything about shatter/crackle polishes it is made with a slightly different composition so it doesn't give an even coat like normal polish. Instead it...well...cracks ahahaha! With every use it changes slightly which adds to the effect. You apply your base colour and let it completely dry, then you paint a very thin coat of the crackle polish over it and it dries extremely quickly. Try to cover your nail in one swipe but if you need to do not overlap coats because it will have a much harder time to crack (the same applies when you use too thick a coat).
So starting with the OPI Black Shatter, I LOVE this polish. The brush helps to distribute the quick coat over the nail in 1-2 swipes. It has a nice finish and looks good over a variety of colours. Snow blast is my least favourite of the three because the polish was more gooey and harder to distribute, therefore the effect is harder to get. The finish is almost matte (which I normally like) but in this case it doesn't look very nice. I tried it on a couple of fingers to see if maybe it was occurring because the polish hadn't been used for a while but unfortunately it made no difference. Finally, Antiqued Gold, which I found to be much better than Snow Blast but not quite as good as Black Shatter. The polish was much easier to use and the finish is multi-demensional. Overtop of Cozu-melted in the Sun it is a little harder to see the effect because of the finish of both polishes is similar but the gold is not as harsh as the black polish so I find it a bit easier to use over a wide variety of polishes. Overall, I would recommend the OPI over the Sally Hansen polish because it seems SH is hit and miss depending on the colours. I would be willing to try more OPI shatters before buying anymore Sally Hansen colours. But you never know what will happen! Let me know if you've had any experience with this type of polish and what your thought about them are. Now onto the photos!
