I've had this article pinned up on my fridge since my dad cut it out of the Toronto Star almost 2 years ago (June 2, 2010) and it talks about which fruits are more dirty/clean when it comes to pesticides. I know that there has been a crack down in some countries on pesticide usage but I doubt whether you know exactly where all your fruit is coming from and the countries view of it. So I thought I'd share with you some of the fruit you should clean a little better and the ones that ranked more clean.
- Bell Peppers
- Imported Grapes (imported in this case means outside of Canada)
I don't know about you but I like a lot of these foods (celery, strawberries, peaches, grapes, apples and potatoes) and I always give them a rinse when I bring them home from the store, but I probably don't scrub them as much as I should. Now onto the ones you get to worry less about.
- Sweet Corn
- Sweet Peas
- Sweet Potatoes
- Honeydew Melon
Yay! I love almost all of these foods (minus, say...cabbage, eggplant, peas & avocados and I can live without onions). So I hope this little tidbit opens your eyes to what food is more affected by pesticides and that it may prompt you to scrub what you bring home a little more. And comment below with your favourite item from each of these lists!
