So I have decided to start filming weekly episodes covering nutrition, health in general & fitness stuff, so those will be called "Health & Fitness Fridays." So be sure to check those out! And I'll be filming and possibly uploading this weeks episode earlier because Friday is my BIRTHDAY!! (20th if you want to know) And I will be with my family for the day so I'd rather not film and upload a video while with them (so I'm not being rude and anti-social lol).
I'll give you a heads up on the first topic I will be covering and thats *drum roll please* FOOD LABELS! And how to properly read them and understand them. Because I think it is super important to stay in good health, or to become healthier!
I will also be filming fitness vlogs about my challenges and goals fitness wise that I hope to attain this summer.
That's all for now!
So there are some days you just can't make it to the gym to do weights, cardio, or swim. But you should do some workouts that are 'at-home' friendly. There are so many exercises that DON'T need equipment and all that you need is your own body weight. A yoga mat is something I think everyone should have (no its not just for yoga class!) I have a super bright orange one that I just keep rolled up by my bed. Some companies have really cool travel cases for their mats if you do use it outside your house for classes. So this morning I decided I needed to get some exercise today and I had to do it at home because I had no way of getting to my gym. So I rolled out my mat, grabbed my stability ball and got cracking! First thing you need to do is STRETCH. It is super important to do it! And some people just do not understand that. So I stretch for a few minutes, head to toe, and I just do stretches that my rugby team used to go through before our games (if you guys want to see what my stretches are just comment below or email me and I can do a little video on it). After that I did some crunches with the stability ball, then I did a V ab exercise, the superman pose, plank, plank with leg lifts, squats, and leg lifts. Even after just a few minutes and a couple sets of short reps you body really feels it. So those are great to do on days off from the gym or when you can't make it. I'd also recommend lunges, and bicep curls/tricep curls so you get some upper body and full body. If you're interested in seeing these exerci
So I have decided since I do not enjoy running or jogging, mostly because it hurts my knees (despite having great shoes) and I'm terrified of uneven paths/roads because I have injured my ankles before. I used to play rugby and would always tape my ankles and one of my knees because I've fractured one ankle (7 yrs ago which seems like a lifetime) and sprained my other so I do not want to endure those feelings again. I'm not really sure why my knees hurt but it could be from all the years of dance and gymnastics, but who knows!
Anyways, back on point, because I'm not a fan of doing anything other than walking on sidewalks and paths I have decided that I am going to start swimming laps at my campus' gym. I know that people can lose a lot of body weight swimming but my goal is more or less toning up some areas. I also want to work on cardio and enduring and what better way than swimming?
So after making this decision I had to find a one piece bathing suit, because I am a bikini lover and I know that bikinis+laps are not a good combination! It's a combo for disaster only and I'm going to try to avoid that. So looking at sport stores they all want like $70+ for speedo and other brand and really I haven't even committed myself fully to the idea so I don't want to spend the money on that and then end up flopping on this idea (although I am going to try to keep up with this plan!) So I was in Winners the other day and figured I would check it out for a swim suit and TADA I found one for like $30 even though I'd have liked an even cheaper one but its less than 50% of the price of others so I stopped complaining. I'm sure a few of you who know me are wondering why I didnt just buy a suit from work since a) they are on sale and b) employee discount; well guys none of our suits are really exercise material and are more fashion oriented and thats not what I'm going for. So I got a TYR suit (I've never heard of them but then again I really only know speedo) and its actually reversible (two suits in one & no boredom!) which is an added bonus. I'd have liked to get the next size up that what I bought but since that didn't exist, the one I bought fits well and on opinion it apparently fits the way it should. So we shall see how it goes in the water. The next item to get is a good pair of goggles! In ALL my years of swim classes when I was a kid, despite brand or price I have neeeever found a pair of goggles that work well for me. So I'm hoping to change that because my eyes BURN when they get anywhere near chlorine. My eyes hurt thinking about it aha. I'll be skipping the swim cap because I have way too much hair and they annoy me. Now I just have to figure out the quietest times at the pool so I don't look like a fool (or fish out of water LOL). I'll be researching some tips for swimming laps for beginners and I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Okay guys so I have decided to rename this page to Health & Fitness so that I can not only continue to talk about food (which we all LOVE) that I'm baking, cooking, came across, etc. but also talk about healthy habits, fitness ideas, routines and most importantly self-esteem and confidence. Everyone is beautiful no matter what your size but I believe it is important to keep healthy and not fall into bad habits. I will also be posting a bit of a fitness journal for me over the next few weeks so ttay
Comment below to let me know if there are any ideas you have for posts on fitness, nutrition or body image (male or female!) and I will do my best to get to them all!
No it is not I who wants to hold back on the chocolate but my dad. He is not a fan so I will be changing the recipe to make it Banana nut bread :)
The original recipe actually was on the back of the packaging for the two bread pans my dad and I got about a month or so ago. I have been thinking up different loafs I want to bake and one, that is not usually made in a small rectangular pan but a circular one, is sour dough bread! I LOVE this bread fresh and warm and mmmm. But since I have this "blank" and nut bread recipe I thought I would try that first. It doesn't sound at all challenging, but I may have just jinxed myself ahaha. I was going to try to bake it this afternoon but I have quite a few things to do and I'm going out for drinks tonight for my darling girl Jasmine in celebration of her birthday! And since I helped her choose a dress for tonight I dare not miss it
So this week is a more kick back and relax kind of week because I'm not working this week, I only have my class on Tuesday and Thursday so I'm trying to get some videos done and also cook! It's been a couple weeks since I did my last big adventure in the kitchen and it's long overdue.
I was looking through my lists of recipes that I took down from a few books (titles will be posted) and decided I'd fill you guys in on some of the meal ideas I picked up from each of the books.
I'm looking for a few recipes from the different meal times in the day (breakfast/brunch, lunch/light meal, dinner, dessert & other baked goods).
The first book I'll be covering is, Cook Smart for a Healthy Heart.
For a breakfast/brunch meal they have blueberry popovers which look yummy, even though I'm not a huge fan of fresh blueberries. They have quite a few bread recipes: sourdough, cinnamon raisin, and summer berry muffins, all of which sound amazing. There is a recipe for a Shepherd's Pie which I am dying to make but I don't know if I'll be able to make it this week but I will try. They have a spicy steak with garlic toast (which reminds me of the meal I had last night at my fave restaurant = Snug Harbour in Port Credit). As for desserts this book has plenty I am just waiting to try; a few being: peach and berry cobbler, double raspberry sherbet & fudgy chocolate brownies! I cannot wait to cook & bake some of these and I will keep you updated on how great they taste, what the final meal looks like and the recipes!
No pun intended I swear ahaha.
But a few minutes ago I was complaining that the turkey sandwich I ate didn't do anything for my hunger so I opened my fridge wondering, "what the hell am I going to eat?!" I realized that I had my strawberry yogurt in the fridge still but that it was a few days off its best before, so I tasted it (very cautiously) and it tasted alright at first, then this terrible aftertaste (YUCK!) and after getting a second opinion form my dad it was off to the garbage for that, which was super upsetting because that it always my base for smoothies. Mostly because like I said in my last blog that I'm a strawberry-banana go-to-girl. So Dad offered his plain yogurt (which is every other case I think is gross) and look! it too was past its best before date haha. But we have a brand new plain Greek yogurt so I used that as my base and with no fresh fruit around put in a cup of strawberry-banana juice and two bananas. Mixed it all up and I must say it tastes pretty good! Its obviously a little strong on the banana but the strawberry in the juice pulls through enough to surprise you. My only complaint is that its not thick enough without the extra fruit and with the juice; but it will do!
