With my grandmothers passing, our family and friends from around the world wanted to make donations.
Both my dad and I have been wanting to help raise awareness for a disease that is not very well publicized; it's called Cystic Fibrosis. To sum it up quickly, its a children's disease seeing as it kills many children, but those who have it to a lesser degree can live "normal-er" lives. Your lungs fill up with liquid/mucus and eventually you'll need a lung transplant or you will die.
We had a family friend who lost her son when he was just a teen because he was waiting for a double lung transplant but his sister is fortunate enough that her CF is not as bad as her brother was, or her parents could have lost both their children.
So this year on my campus I am determined to make students aware of this disease and to do fundraisers in support of it. I would also soon like to start a walk or a large scale event on behalf of CF and get media coverage. I envision it to be something along the lines of Megan's Walk for those of you who live in the Toronto region.
It's going to take time and effort but I believe it is worth every second of it. I'll post a link to the national CF website so anyone who is interested can learn more information!
Is there anything that you've wanted to spend time volunteering for? Or do you envision creating a large-scale event for a disease that's touch you, your family or friends? Let me know!
